Lacrosse-Town Blowout

Coming off a 15-5 win over Western Kentucky the Cincinnati Bearcats faced off against Cross-town rival Xavier in what has become known as the annual “Lacrosse-Town Shootout.” The Bearcats were able to continue their barrage on the opposing goalkeepers in this game registering 21 goals.

The Bearcats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to strong play by the attack combination of Bobby Nagle and Zack Fehr. Just after the Bearcats scored their third goal the Musketeers seemingly jumped back in the game by answering with a quick goal of their own to narrow the score to 3-1. From this point on however it would be all Cincinnati as they rattled off eighteen unanswered goals en route to a 21-1 victory over the Musketeers.

The Bearcats played well in every facet of the game on this night as they dominated defensively and offensively while the middies turned in what may have been their best performance of the season. Ray Harper and Brandon Mowrey combined to go 14-1 in their face-offs and each contributed two goals, while midfielders David Jarmus and Phil Cowles each netted a goal apiece. The attack was led by sophomore Bobby Nagle who compiled five goals by the time the game ended.

With this big victory the Bearcats have now outscored their last two opponents by a total of 36-6, and they hope to carry this momentum into the rest of their match-ups this season.

Bearcats Bounce Back

IMG_02041 Playing on back to back days the Bearcats took on Western Kentucky Saturday March 1st at Nippert Stadium. After a tough loss to the Buckeyes the night before the Bearcats were looking to bounce back. The Bearcats offensive potential shined during this game, Cincinnati scored a season high 15 goals and did it in style. The crisp passing and great off ball teamwork opened shooting lanes that the Bearcats were only too eager to take advantage of.

Cincinnati started scoring early and often as the Bearcats earned a goal on their first possession. Cincinnati was moving the ball well the entire game by slowing the tempo and working the ball around a confused Western Kentucky defense. The offense had its best showing of the young season as they found the goal 15 times throughout the game, 7 of those goals coming by way of attackman Zack Fehr. The defense limited W. Kentucky to only 5 goals thanks in large part to a solid performance by Bearcats goalkeeper Andy Rout.

The Bearcats took care of business on Saturday to push their overall record to 2-1 heading in to the “lacrosse-town shootout” against Xavier University Next Friday March 7th. The yearly rivalry game against the Musketeers is always a fast paced and exciting to watch. It promises to live up to expectations once again this year.

A Heartbreaker at Home

The Cincinnati Bearcats had their first home game this year on Friday the 29th against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Bearcats have not registered a win against the Buckeyes in what is now 3 years and counting as they came out on the wrong end of a 7-4 defeat.

The first quarter was a struggle for the Bearcats who were unable to net a goal and were being out played and out hustled. Things picked up in the second quarter as midfielders Ray Harper and Brandon Mowery were able to provide the athleticism that the Buckeyes found hard to match up with. When the whistle blew at halftime the score was4-2 in the Buckeyes favor.

The third quarter witnessed a surge of energy from the Bearcats as they attempted to pull even with the Bucks but were unable to. The physical play that always accompanies this rivalry game was an unavoidable presence in the second half that witnessed big hits from both teams. The Bearcat goals were scored by Ray Harper, Phil Cowles, Zack Fehr, and Bobby Nagle. Cincinnati gave a valiant effort and never gave up for a second during this hard fought battle.

With the loss the Buckeyes streak over the Bearcats continues and you can bet that every player on the Cincinnati team is hoping that they might get a chance to see the Buckeyes again come tournament time.
